Granola Series Part 1 – Homemade Granola

Dry Ingredients

  • 6 cups of rolled old fashioned oats
  • 1 – 12oz. Jar (2 cups) of Wheat Germ (leave out if making Gluten free)
  • ½ cup of whole wheat flour (leave out if making Gluten free)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of sunflower seeds (optional)
  • 1 cup of sesame seeds (optional)
  • ½ cup of hemp hearts (optional)
  • ½ cup of flax seeds (optional)
  • ½ cup of almond slices or crushed (optional)
  • 1-2 cups of pecans crushed or chopped (optional)

Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly in a large bowl. Note: You can use a combination of nuts, these listed above are the ones I like the best.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup of water
  • 1 ½ cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoon of vanilla

In a pot, Mix all together and heat until sugar is dissolved, when dissolved boil 1 minute and cool slightly.

Assemble and Bake

Preheat oven to 325℉. Pour syrup mixture over dry ingredients and mix well. Divide mixture into two sheet pans and spread evenly. Place a piece of parchment paper on the top of mixture and use the bottom of a different sheet pan a push down to really pack the granola in tight. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until it’s a rich golden brown, rotating the tray 180 degrees halfway through. Let cool, break into clumps, and store in an airtight container.

Note: If you want to add dried fruit, wait till the granola is all cooled, to add them.
