Learn to make Rice o Roni from Scratch

This is an easy recipe that you can prepare all the dry ingredients ahead of time and cook as needed to go along with any dish! Grandma Ingrid has had a jar of this sitting on her counter for over 40 years!

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (4 cups) of rice
  • 1 pound of vermicelli
  • 1 pound of barley

Dry Directions

Break the vermicelli noodles into small pieces and mix them with rice and barley. Store in a large airtight container. This will make about six cups of dry rice mix.


Cooking Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice o roni mix (see above)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of soup base
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon of parsley (dry or fresh)

Cooking Directions

In a pan, melt the butter and then add the rice/pasta mix. Stir and cook mixture until brown. Add soup base, parsley and water and bring to a boil cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Enjoy!
