Ingredients
- 4 beaten eggs
- 1 cup of milk (you may use 1/2 & 1/2, part heavy cream, plant based milk)
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla
- (spices of your choice, I use:)
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon of cardamom
- 8 1/2 inch slices of bread, (challah, brioche, thick egg bread or french bread. whatever you have works)
- 1 Tablespoon butter (will need more for additional slices)
- 1 Tablespoon crisco (will need more for additional slices)
Directions
In a shallow bowl, pie plate, cake pan, beat together eggs, milk, vanilla and spices. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, coating both sides (if using real thick bread, egg, challah or brioche, let soak about 10 seconds on each side.)
In a skillet or griddle melt 1 tablespoon crisco and butter over medium heat, place what bread that will fit in your pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Repeat until all is cooked. Serve with warm syrup, jam or toppings of your choice.
