Grandma’s Cheesy Grits

Ingredients

  • 4 Cups of water (or stock)
  • 4 teaspoons of soup base (if you are going to make stock)
  • ¼ teaspoons of salt
  • 1 cup of Grits
  • 1-2 cups of cheese of your choice

Directions

Bring to a boil and and slowly add grits, stirring as you add them, bring back to a boil and lower temperature and simmer for 20 minutes. Stirring often as it cooks. Turn off the heat stir well and add cheese. Serve as you like.

For fried Grits place, cooked grits in a plastic wrap lined bread pan and let cool and set up. I do mine the night before and usually use leftover grits. To fry take plastic wrapped grits out of the pan and unwrap them, slice and fry in a small amount of bacon grease or oil of your choice, until golden brown. Serve hot and enjoy.
